January 2008

Dear Great Lakes Region Pony Clubs,

Welcome to the 2008 Great Lakes Region QUIZ RALLY. We will be following the USPC Handbook and Rules for Quiz Competition 2007 and any addendum thereafter. We will continue with the Quiz format including: Classroom, Stations, Mega Room, and Barn Phase. We ask that every club designate at least one of their volunteers to assist in the barn phase (dress warm).

Educating parents and club members about this format, rules, and rally protocol can be a very time consuming job, but one that will result in a better rally experience for everyone involved. We would like to remind DC’s and team members that Rules for Quiz Competition 2007 can be obtained on the Pony Club Website or the USPC Bookstore. Questions for Quiz will be derived from a number of sources. A copy of the current required and recommended reading references for Quiz is located at the USPC Website.

The volunteer form and the Rally release form are included in the packet. The chaperone form is located in the Horse Management Handbook. Please refer to the USPC Handbook and Rules for Quiz Competition 2007 for volunteer job descriptions and team entry forms. Medical releases and Quiz reference/reading list should be obtained from the USPC website, www.ponyclub.org.

Please be aware that a block of rooms has been reserved at the Potowatami Inn under Pony Club. These rooms will only be held until February 14, so please get your reservations in early. Inn rules require that no food other than that supplied by the Inn be allowed in the meeting rooms. Please consider this when making luncheon reservations.

As with all Pony Club Rallies, success is dependent on volunteers. Maximum parent and sponsor help is greatly appreciated and needed. We cannot run the rally without your support! Please consider how you can best help and let us know. REMINDER – Pony Clubbers must be a C-3 or above, or 18 and older to volunteer in any official capacity except for as runners. Any Pony Clubbers volunteering must include medical release form.

Please read the enclosed information carefully, and make copies for all who will be attending. We look forward to seeing you on Saturday, March 15th at the Rally.

Sincerely,

Julie Graber, Quiz Organizer

Silver Snaffles Pony Club

VOLUNTEER COMMMITMENT FORM

(Please fill out one per volunteer)

On the day of competition, the most important roles for adults begin when the teams are checked in and continue until the last protest is adjudicated and the team and individual standings are tallied. One of the best ways to observe is to serve in some official capacity. Needless to say, having a successful Quiz Rally requires many prepared volunteers. We must have 2 volunteers per team and 1 alternate. The volunteers must be different than the chaperones. We require that

each club designate one of their volunteers to be stationed in the barn.

We need volunteers to fill the jobs of scorekeeper, room steward and timer/recorder in classrooms, stations, megaroom and barn phases. We need

table judges for stations and megaroom. Full descriptions of these jobs can be found in USPC Rules for Quiz Competition 2007. We also need reliable runners to transport scores. Runners may be responsible, non-competing pony clubbers. (Must include medical release) We would also appreciate a few drivers and vehicles to transport teams to the barn! Circle your job preference.
